Bridges of Understanding supports the Marymount Jordanian Scholarship Program which is made possible due to the generous contribution of Marlene & Fred Malek.  This four-year scholarship will be granted to a Jordanian citizen who will be given the opportunity to study and live in the United States.

The first recipient of this scholarship, Farah, enrolled at Marymount in the fall of 2008.  Farah spoke about her experiences growing up in Jordan at the Bridges of Understanding Annual Conference in October 2008.  She shared with the audience her commitment to promoting understanding between the United States and the Arab world and her goal to become a doctor.  Click here to read a recent update from Farah!

Bridges of Understanding is also pleased to suport Arabic Year at King's Academy, a one-year program for high school students offering intensive Arabic studies, experiential learning and Middle Eastern cultural immersion.

This program's mission is to foster understanding between Americans and Jordanians and to build bridges of friendship and communication, as the program is designed for American and international students in grades 10 through 12 who wish to learn Arabic and explore the history, politics and culture of the Middle East for a full year of study.

AY will offer various levels of classical and colloquial Arabic courses at King's Academy, enabling students to develop the skills to communicate regionally and locally. Students will study Arabic literature in translation and Middle Eastern history, in addition to having full access to King's Academy's AP courses as well as to regular honors and standard-level courses.  Weekends and spring break will feature immersion opportunities with Jordanian families in Amman, as well as visits to sites, shops, homes and rural villages.
