Bridges is excited to
announce our sponsorship of the Women2Women 2010
conference (W2W), which will take place in Boston from August 3-10.
The conference is organized by Empower Peace, a Boston-based
non-profit, and will bring together approximately 1 00 young women from across the U.S. and the Arab and Muslim worlds for a week-long cultural
and educational experience. W2W 2010 will engage these women in the issues
that define their lives, providing them with the tools, relationships,
and opportunities they need to lead and to make a change. The theme
"Claim Your Seat at the Table" reflects the goal of the conference: to provide
young women with intensive leadership training to build critical skills
while breaking down cultural barriers. The women will also work to
develop community action plans which will be implemented upon their return
home, supported by an international network of W2W alumnae.
In an effort to combat the challenges facing women and girls worldwide, the goal of the
conference is to empower girls (ages 15-19 are eligibile for
participation) through an opportunity to "learn, network, and acquire
leadership skills" necessary to make a positive difference in their
home communities - through seminars and workshops with leaders in
government, media, business, science and technology, and the non-profit
sector; team-building activities; leadership development and
skill-building; outreach with youth and community leaders; and cultural
activities. W2W 2010 will allow the participants to "claim their seats
at the table and become part of the solution."
Empower
Peace, founded in 2003, is a non-profit working to address the cultural
and communciation gap separating young people throughout the world,
using opportunities and tools to advance mutual respect, knowledge, and
peace. Empower Peace launched the Women2Women Program in 2006, and now
counts over 200 alumnae in its global network. Bridges Co-Founder Kathy Hubbard
spoke at the W2W 2009 Conference in Boston, and continues to be
dedicated to the program. As the website states: "When women and girls
have the opportunity to participate fully in every aspect of society,
communities and countries are changed for the better."
